Frequently Asked Questions

GENERAL QUESTIONS

Are you a school?

No. Salkehatchie Scholars Academy is a tutoring and educational consulting service.
We do not operate as a public or private school and are not the school of record.

Students must remain enrolled in a homeschool program, public school, or private school as required by South Carolina law.


Do you replace my role as a homeschool parent?

No. Parents remain the primary educator and are responsible for compliance with homeschool laws, recordkeeping, and academic decisions.

We provide support, structure, and guidance to help your student succeed.

SERVICES

What subjects do you cover? 

We provide support in a variety of academic areas, including:

  • Math 
  • English / Language Arts 
  • Writing 
  • Study skills and organization 
  • Test preparation 
  • General academic support 

Additional support may be available based on student needs.


Do you help with highschool/college planning?

Yes. We assist with:

  • Academic planning 
  • Course selection guidance 
  • College and career readiness 
  • Dual enrollment support

SCHEDULING & STRUCTURE

How often should my child attend?

This depends on your student’s needs.

General recommendations:

  • 1 session per week: Maintenance or light support 
  • 2 sessions per week: Steady improvement 
  • 3–4 sessions per week: Catching up, building strong foundations, or preparing for major goals 
  • Sessions can be in person or virtual.

We provide a personalized recommendation after your consultation.


How long are sessions?

Session length will be determined based on the selected plan and student needs.


What happens is we miss a session?

Sessions canceled with less than 24 hours’ notice are not guaranteed to be rescheduled.
Make-up sessions may be offered based on availability.

ACADEMIC SUPPORT

Do you give grades or transcripts?

No. Final grades, transcripts, and academic records are the responsibility of the parent or the student’s school or homeschool program.

We may provide feedback, progress updates, and recommendations to support decision-making.


Do you guarantee results?

We do not guarantee specific grades or outcomes.
Student success depends on attendance, effort, and consistency.

COMMUNICATION

How will I receive updates about my child's progress?Progress updates are provided based on your selected plan and communication preferences.
We may share updates weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly.
